Visitor numbers will go up if people can find me in the search engines. When visitor numbers reach a critical mass, then the likelihood is that I will be able to start attracting signups.

Exchanged links with some other dating sites. I am going to do the same goes with other unrelated sites because there is some indication it is merely as important.
List in online business directories
Write articles to submit to articles directories - this is one of them
Participated in forums
Added my connect to Squidoo.com lenses (member pages)
Added h1 headers to each and every page of this site using keywords
Submitted a sitemap to Google using Google Webmaster Tools

We have had some small success and i also think that it is going to work in time. Right now, my dating site ranks between 80 and 200 for four keywords there are small improvements everyday.
